Variety of Products for Different Target Groups
Wheat, rice, spelt, corn - breakfast cereals are diverse. Puffed versions of amaranth, rice, spelt, wheat and other grains complement the offer, as do malted grains from various cereals. Seeds like pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame and flaxseeds can already be included in cereal mixes or purchased as an addition. Raisins are often mixed into muesli, but there are also raisin- and dried fruit-free mixtures.
Classic German Breakfast Product
Breakfast cereals are offered by major manufacturers such as Kellogg Company, Dr. Oetker GmbH, H. & J. Brüggen, Kraft Foods and Nestlé. Pure breakfast cereals without additives are primarily available in organic and health food stores. Weetabix, made from wheat malt, comes from the British market. Muesli and breakfast cereals are particularly popular in Germany and Switzerland, but they are only rarely available in many other countries outside of the classical West (Europe and USA).
How It's Eaten
The dried cereal flakes are usually poured with milk or fruit juice. But breakfast cereals also suit consumption in yogurt, quark, buttermilk and other sour milk products - depending on the nature of the flakes and personal preferences. However, it is more sensible to enjoy breakfast cereals made from whole grain cereals with fruit juice. Because the flakes contain valuable iron, which the body cannot fully absorb when combined with dairy products. Fruit juices and fresh berries contain vitamin C, which positively influences iron absorption. Other minerals, trace elements and vitamins are also supplemented this way. Fresh nuts are a crunchy and valuable addition because they contain additional fats needed for the breakdown of various vitamins - for example, vitamin D can only be processed by the body together with fat. A freshly prepared muesli with fruits, juice or milk, nuts and different breakfast cereals is therefore very beneficial to health.
Breakfast Cereals for Health
Since breakfast cereals are considered healthy and "healthy" is modern, there is a lot of information about the grains. The range extends from nutritional tables over calorie calculations and glycemic index calculations to the most diverse recipes. Often food allergies and intolerances are taken into account when preparing personal mixes of breakfast cereals and other ingredients; also diets for specific diseases and health-promoting food supplements can be considered. Of course, you can prepare your own muesli - but it is also advertised online to create a completely personalized muesli. The simple variant "oatmeal with milk" has become a high-science lifestyle product and is promoted accordingly. However, the products labeled as "Wellness-", "Low Fat-" or "Bio-Whole Grain-" often turn out to be heavily sweetened when looking at the ingredient list. Additives like calcium, vitamins and folic acid are popular, but unnecessary in a balanced mix of breakfast cereals. The chemical additives cannot be well utilized by the body and accumulate in the kidneys, which can harm health over time.
